Smash Bros.’ creator Masahiro Sakurai has sunsetted his YouTube channel because he is working on a mystery new game. The 54-year-old game designer - who had worked on the franchise up until its most recent instalment ‘Super Smash Bros.

In the final video from the Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games YouTube channel, Sakurai revealed that he received a video game development proposal in July 2021, as he was busy putting together the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Kazuya reveal video as well as DLC character Sora.

So, the reason Sakurai made a YouTube channel to begin with because he had a brief amount of downtime. Around July 2021, he was ending work on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was asked to prepare a pitch for a new game, which he promptly finished and send back to the unnamed game company who requested it.

It’s been two and a half years since Masahiro Sakurai, best known for directing Smash Bros. Ultimate and the other entries in Nintendo’s hit platform fighting series, took a break from development to create a YouTube channel dedicated to educating fans and players about how games are made.
