(Reuters) -Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday at the BRICS summit in Russia, India's foreign secretary said, their first meeting since 2020 when ties nosedived after their forces clashed on their disputed frontier.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (22 October) held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit. He highlighted the opening of India's new consulate and the strong bilateral ties between the two countries as this is Modi's second visit to Russia in the last three months reflect.

The announcement comes after the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed ongoing communication between India and China through diplomatic and military channels to resolve border issues.
