European Union election observers have flagged irregularities in Mozambique’s election as the country awaits the announcement of official results this week.

Election observers working for the European Union (EU) say some voting results have been doctored in Mozambique, as unrest in the country continues to grow. Thousands of people joined opposition protests on Monday that were called by independent presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane.

The European Parliament on Tuesday approved a $37.83 billion loan to Ukraine that will be repaid from the profits of frozen Russian assets, clearing the final hoop for the funds.

The loan to Ukraine is part of a larger $50 billion package that G7 nations have already pledged to Kyiv.

European Union lawmakers on Tuesday approved the bloc's plan to use frozen Russian central bank assets to loan up to 35 billion euros ($38 billion) to its ally Ukraine. The European Parliament voted by 518 in favour to 56 against,

Moldova, the EU and the United States said the Kremlin had waged a "hybrid war" campaign to destabilize the country and keep it in Russia's sphere of influence, including funding pro-Moscow parties, spreading disinformation and pouring millions of dollars into schemes to buy up 300,000 votes. Nearly 1.5 million Moldovans ultimately voted.

Moldovans were evenly split on Monday amid final counting in a geopolitically momentous referendum on European Union accession with 50.08% in favor and 49.92% against, electoral authorities said.
