The Falcon Heights City Council voted unanimously Wednesday night to contract with the St. Anthony Police Department for the first time since 2017 when their partnership ended following the highly publicized killing of Philando Castile by a St. Anthony police officer.

The partnership is planned to begin on March 1, 2025, and last through 2030, with a contract expected to be finalized by the end of this year.

Falcon Heights City Council voted Wednesday to renew a policing contract with St. Anthony Village, years after the partnership was dissolved.

The Falcon Heights and St. Anthony city councils will decide this week whether to authorize a police services partnership eight years after a St. Anthony police officer fatally shot Philando Castile during a traffic stop.

The long-running relationship was severed in 2017 after St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez fatally shot Castile in Falcon Heights during a traffic stop.

After the partnership was dissolved following the shooting of Philando Castile in 2016, the Falcon Heights City Council voted Wednesday to finalize a contract to have St. Anthony Village handle policing services in the city.
