Mattel exec Josh Silverman spoke to THR about the company's mission to create shows that resonate with both adults and children, something he calls "new-stalgia."

Almost two decades after its last episode aired, the highly popular children's animated series Pingu is being remade by stop-motion studio Aardman and Mattel.

The global toy and entertainment giant is teaming up with the 'Wallace and Gromit' and 'Chicken Run' studio on a new 3D animated show inspired by the mischievous penguin living in the South Pole. In a statement,

Aardman and Mattel are teaming up to co-develop a brand-new stop motion 3D animated television series featuring Pingu.

Aardman and Mattel has announced a collaboration that will lead to the creation of a stop-motion animated Pingu series. It will be co-developed by Aardman chief creative director Sarah Cox and Alan Thorpe, as well as Sidney Clifton, Rob David, and Melanie Shannon from Mattel.

Mattel, which acquired the penguin character in 2011, will co-develop a new stop-motion 3D animated Pingu TV show with Aardman, the animation company which created Wallace And Gromit and Chicken Run. The decision to partner with Aardman was a no-brainer, Mattel chief franchise officer Josh Silverman said.
